How to access Control Panel and PC Settings in Windows 8

In Windows 8 and Windows RT, there are a number of different ways to find and change your settings. So here's how to access the Control Panel and PC Settings on a Windows 8 PC, laptop or tablet.

PC Settings is a new section of Windows 8 where you can, well, change the settings of your PC. You can personalise, set your notifications, control user account and more. You can also use the traditional Control Panel as with previous versions of Windows.

How to open the Control Panel in Windows 8

Step One

Navigate to the Desktop part of Windows 8. You can do this by hitting the Windows key or clicking the Desktop tile.

Step Two

Open the Charms bar by swiping in from the right hand edge of the screen (for touch) or moving your mouse to the right hand corners of the screen.

Step Three

Click Settings.

Step Four

Click Control Panel.

Alternatively, you can search for the Control Panel by the Search section of the Charms bar. It's also found in the System section of the Apps list.

How to open PC Settings in Windows 8

Step One

Open the Charms bar as per the instructions above.

Step Two

Click on Settings.

Step Three

Click on Change PC Settings.
