When Microsoft introduced Windows 7, the latest iteration of its Windows operating system, it gave PC users a host of new features. Among these was the ability to pin a program to the task bar so that you don't have to open the Start menu and trawl through the program list to open it. Furthermore, a program that has been pinned will remain on the task bar even if the PC is shut down and re-started.
Get easy access to your favourite applications
If the application is already open, simply right-click on the icon on the task bar and select Pin this program to the task bar.
If the program isn't running, launch the Start menu and then right-click on the application you want. Select Pin to task bar. Alternatively, you can drag a program short cut from the desktop or Start menu to the taskbar. Likewise, you can drag a specific file or shortcut to a webpage to the task bar and Windows will automatically pin the program associated with that file to the task bar, if it's not been pinned already.
To remove a program that has been pinned to the task bar, simply right click and select Unpin this program from the task bar.
Furthermore, you can also rearrange the order that programs pinned to the task bar appear. To do this, simply click on the icon in the task bar and drag it to the position you require it to be in. The other icons will automatically be shuffled down the task bar to make way for the icon you've dragged there.
