Installed a Firefox extension that you no longer want? Let our Helproom expert assist.

QUESTION I accidentally clicked a button to install the Xmarks add-on for Firefox, although the loader failed to complete. When I go online I now get a message stating 'Xmarks almost done. Click to finish installing'.

Clicking this brings up a login window, but I no longer have the password. I want to remove Xmarks, but it won't budge. Anon

HELPROOM ANSWER The usual way to remove an unwanted extension is to start Firefox, press Alt to open the File menu, then select Tools, Add-ons. This brings up the Add-ons Manager.

Choose Extensions from the lefthand pane. This will display a list of your installed extensions. Find an unwanted add-on and click the Remove button beside the entry.

Xmarks is a little different to other extensions in that it requires you to log in at first run. You'll need to do so before you can uninstall Xmarks using the normal method, so if you can't remember your password you should create a new account. Xmarks provides its own uninstallation instructions here.
