Tonido turns your PC into a cloud server for free
Use Tonido with mobile devices
One of the best features of Tonido is the excellent support for a wide range of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. There are apps for iOS so you can access your cloud server from an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. There's also an Android app for phones and tablets, a Windows Phone app and BlackBerry phone and PlayBook app. That covers most of the market.
All apps are free of charge and they can be downloaded from the usual places. In other words, go to the App Store on an iOS device, the Google Play Store on Android devices and so on. Use the Search facility to find Tonido.
The features available depend on the capabilities of the device and the operating system. For example, apps on iPhones and iPads have limited access to the system and storage.
The Android app on the other hand, can access all the files on the device and you can upload and download anything. Mostly though, you will want to only play music stored on your Tonido cloud PC, upload photos, view files on your PC, and so on. All the apps on all the devices have this basic functionality and here we show how to use the Android app.
Access your personal cloud using an Android device
1. Use your Android smartphone or tablet to go to the Google Play Store and use the search facility to find the Tonido app. Click the Install button to add it to the device. Quit the store, find the app and run it.
2. Your Tonido PC is protected and only you can log in. Enter your account name and password and check that the server address is correct. It should be http://yourname.tonidoid.com. You can then log in to it.
3. The files and folders on the Tonido PC’s files are displayed and you can browse around and select files. What happens next depends on what apps you have installed. You can view it, edit it or print it.
4. If you browse to the music folder on your Tonido PC you can select any MP3 file by tapping it. This displays the music player screen. There are controls to pause/play, stop, next and previous tracks.

moffolo said: We cannot exchange opinions in commentsThe article is just an advertising for Tolido that I tried for a few minutes and then uninstalled Tolido offers file sharing and cloud but if ur hard drive fails ur data is lost What new level of backups you meanId really like a free open source cloud server with all the functionalities and apps for mobile and pc that a cloud service needs including its own backup of course not a backup on the same HDD but another one or FTP network drive cloud versioning sharing folder capabilities and so on and Im sure Im missing some Then maybe it would really be a personal cloud server
