Use Windows to extract files compressed into SIT files in OS X

Using a utility to extract compressed files

How do you unzip files compressed using a Mac, when you are on a Windows PC? Our Helproom Expert explains how to handle this cross-platform confusion.

QUESTION I'm using Windows 7 64bit and need a reliable utility that will allow me to extract documents that were compressed into SIT files by a Mac. I've already tried 7-Zip, WinZip and Stuffit Expander. Martina Jessop

HELPROOM ANSWER Stuffit files can be extracted on a Windows PC by using a utility such as ExtractNow or Universal Extractor. Either of these will cope with SIT files created on a Mac just as easily as Zip files created on a PC.
