Help! My PC won't let me install software from a DVD

Adobe PDF, and Cover DVD software

A reader found he couldn't install software from the PC Advisor cover disc. Our Helproom Expert explains the problem, and how to solve it.

QUESTION I clicked a program installation link on the PC Advisor Cover DVD and got the message 'This file is set to be launched by this PDF file. This is currently disallowed by your system administrator'. I have admin rights. Ron Smith

HELPROOM ANSWER This message relates to a security measure taken by Adobe to prevent external applications being launched from inside
a PDF document. Prior to this fix, it was possible for malicious code to trick you into running an external program.

The latest version of Adobe Reader stops any installation buttons in the DVD interface from working. Instead you should manually install the program by following the installation instructions listed.

In the case of the PC Advisor Cover DVD, this will usually involve going to My Computer, then right-clicking the DVD icon to open the disc. From here you can navigate to the Files folder, which contains the installation files for all the software included on the DVD.
