How to enable Home Sharing on an iPhone

Stream music from your PC to your iOS device

Home Sharing is a feature in Apple's iTunes that allows PC users to share their digital music and video libraries with up to five other computers located in the same household.

However, if you connect an iOS device, whether it's an Apple iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, along with Apple TV (2nd generation) to your home Wi-Fi network, it's also possible to stream your iTunes library through these devices too. Although, bear in mind you will need iOS 4.3 or later to be able to enjoy Home Sharing. We've already shown you how-to set up Home Sharing on an iPad  bits it’s a slightly different process on Apple's smartphone. Here's how to set-up and access Home Sharing on your Apple iPhone.

Step one
To begin with you'll need to enable Home Sharing on your iTunes library on your Home PC. You'll need iTunes 10.2 or above to stream to an iOS device. From the Advanced menu select Turn on Home Sharing. You'll be required to enter your Apple ID that you use for the iTunes store and your password. Now press Create Home Share. It's worth noting, you'll need to use this Apple ID on any iOS device you want to stream content to. You should repeat these steps on any other PCs on your Home network you want to stream content to.

Step two
Now select Settings on your Apple iPhone and then chose iPod. Under the section marked Home Sharing enter the same Apple ID and password you entered on your home PC, then press Ok. Make sure your iPhone is connected to your home Wi-Fi network.

Step three
To stream music on your iPhone, open the iPod option from the Home Screen and select the More option. From here chose Shared and select a shared library you want to access.
