Netgear's wireless adaptor software causes a problem

A component of Netgear's wireless adaptor software called 'RtlGina2.dll' causes problems with Windows. After a reader wrote in to explain the problem, our Helproom editor stepped in to help out.

QUESTION My Windows XP machine has begun throwing up the following error message: 'A recently installed program has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features, you must uninstall the program. The following file name might help identify the program that made the change: 'RtlGina2.dll'. Barry Raper

HELPROOM ANSWER The RtlGina2.dll file mentioned here is a component of Netgear's wireless adaptor software. When installed, it replaces a Windows file that's required for the correct operation of Fast User Switching. We don't have one of these adaptors to hand, and have been unable to test the solution. However, other users have reported success with a utility written by Doug Knox, a former Microsoft MVP. Download the tool here.
