How to back up your email

Keep your email files even if you reinstall your PC

QUESTION My PC has so many programs installed that it's running very slowly. I’m happy to restore it to its factory settings and reinstall only the programs I need, but how can I back up my email? Graham Simmons

HELPROOM ANSWER Email software is very good at providing backup and restore options. You don’t say which software you’re using, but here’s the lowdown for the most popular clients.

In Windows Live Mail, Outlook Express and Mozilla Thunderbird look under the File menu for an ‘Import\Export’ link.

In Live Mail, click the blue Live Mail tab and choose Export. In Outlook Express, click File, Export.

The process in Outlook varies from version to version. An excellent guide is provided at Outlook Backup Tutorial.

If you’re using Mozilla Thunderbird, download MozBackup. Follow the prompts to back up and restore your Thunderbird mail and settings.
