How to fix a conflict between your Windows Firewall and router

Plus: how to download and install Microsoft .Net Framework

QUESTION I purchased Windows 7 online and have since been getting the error message: ‘To run this application you must first install one of the following versions of .Net Framework v4.0.30319'. When I get online, Internet Explorer tells me ‘Windows can't find a computer or device named http'. William Yates

HELPROOM ANSWER To fix the first issue, install the .Net Framework using Windows Update or download it manually.

The second problem suggests there is a conflict with your Windows Firewall settings and your router. Turn off the Windows Firewall (Start, Control Panel, Windows Firewall, Turn Windows Firewall on or off) and see whether that fixes the problem.

If it doesn't, reset your router to its default settings. If you have a third-party security product with a firewall, disable that as well.
