How to reverse Registry Cleaner problems

What to do when you your Registry goes wrong

QUESTION I believe my overzealous use of Registry Mechanic and Hard Drive Washer 3.0 may have caused problems on my PC. When I plug a device into a USB port the Autoplay dialog contains no options. Also, URLs in my email are no longer clickable. Anthony Hampson

HELPROOM ANSWER Registry-cleaning programs can sometimes create unforeseen problems. However, it's easy to reinstate the items you're missing.

To recreate the Autoplay menu go to Start, Run and type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll, then regsvr32 actxprxy. Following a reboot the menu shortcuts should reappear.

Oddly enough, your email problem is actually a web browser issue. To fix it, launch Internet Explorer and click Tools, Internet Options. Select the Advanced tab.

Click 'Reset Internet Explorer settings' to get your email shortcuts working again.
