How to make basic video edits with Nero Vision 4.0

Capture video with the camcorder you never knew you had

First, transfer the video to your PC. Attach your camera's memory card to a docking station or card reader (the PC's built-in reader or an external USB model). Or connect the PC and camera with a FireWire cable, turn the camera on and download footage via Windows' Scanner and Camera Wizard.

Step 1

Step 1

Install and launch your video-editing program. In Nero 7.0, choose Nero StartSmart. Click Applications and select Nero Vision. Choose Make Movie to access the Untitled Project screen. Note that if you have a supported camcorder model or PCI video capture card, you can also use Nero Vision to import footage.

Step 2

Step 2

The window on the right of your screen stores the Assets (still photos and video clips). Click the magnifying glass icon and choose Browse. Locate your file and add it to the Asset window. It's easiest to first assemble the clips and stills you want for your movie here before you begin editing and arranging them.

Step 3

Step 3

Add these clips to the project in the order you want them to play. Drag-and-drop files from the Assets window on to the Storyboard, or click them and hit +. To delete a clip, right-click it and choose Delete. Re-order clips by dragging them into position, and group items using the Create New Group drop-down menu.

Step 4

Step 4

To edit a clip, click on it in Timeline mode. Hit the Cut button (the scissors) below the preview window. Now, using the blue and red sliders, you can select the footage you want to cut. Once you've done this, click the Cut button again to remove the material from your project. You'll be left with the surrounding footage.
