Our Helproom Editor offers advice to those people who are looking to connect their PC or Mac to a display.

QUESTION I have a late 2003 Power Mac G5 (970) with a Dual 2GHz processor. It is running Mac OS X 10.5.8, has 6GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon 9650 Graphics card with 256MB VRAM. My new LG 21.5 inch monitor has a DVI-D socket but it also had a VGA and an HDMI socket. My question is, what would be the best cable to connect computer and monitor? Although I know that the monitor has a DVI-D connection I am not sure the graphics card has one.

HELPROOM ANSWER The DVI-D port would indeed be the best way to connect your monitor as it's a digital connection, which should provide you with the best picture quality. It also means you won't have to perform any adjustments on the monitor, automatic or otherwise, to properly align the image.

Looking up the specs for your particular Mac, it does indeed have a DVI port so if you buy a DVI-D cable it will fit. It'll be the only connector on the Mac to which the cable will fit. If you have two such connectors, either port will work.
