While backing-up the contacts on your smartphone to a SIM card is a great way to ensure you don't lose names, numbers and emails if your handset has to be wiped, it doesn't protect you if you lose the phone itself.
With this in mind, it's worth considering backing up your contacts to a separate memory card so if you are unfortunate enough to lose your smartphone, you'll have a record of all the names and numbers you need. Here's how to do it on a Google Android device.
Insert a memory card into your phone. If you already have a memory card inserted into your handset, remove it and use a different memory card, so if you lose the phone you'll still have a record of your contacts.
From the home screen select Contacts and then press the Menu button and choose More.
From the options displayed, select Import/export.
Now choose Export to memory card. You'll be asked to confirm you want to export your contact list. Click Ok and your contacts will be backed-up to the memory card inserted into your phone. Now remove the memory card and keep it somewhere safe!
