How to activate call waiting on a Google Android smartphone

Get an alert that someone's trying to call when you're already on the phone

The call waiting feature on mobile phones means that users who are already using their handset for a conversation will be alerted, usually by a series of beeps, if there's another person trying to call them at the same time. We show you how to activate the function on Google Android devices.

It's worth noting that not all smartphone owners will be able to access the call waiting feature. Some operators don't give the function to Pay-as-you-go customers, so if the option is greyed out, check with your network to see if you can have access to it.

Step one
From the Home screen, open the Settings Menu.

Step two
Select the Call Settings options and then from the list displayed press Voice Calls.

Step three
Scroll down to the Call Waiting option and make sure the box next to it is checked. The handset will update your settings and once completed, you're free to exit the menu with the function now switched on.

Step four
If you want to turn call waiting off at any time, simply uncheck the box.
