How to set an MP3 as a ringtone on a BlackBerry

Personalise your phone's notification sounds

Most smartphones come with a selection of ringtones these days, and BlackBerry's are no exception, but there's nothing like putting your own stamp on a handset by using one of your own MP3's as a ringtone.

Perhaps you want to hear your favourite song on a regular basis or you simply want to distinguish between different callers without having to look at the screen to see who's trying to get in touch. Using MP3s as ringtones will let you do this, and it only takes a few simple steps to set them as ringtones. Here's how to do it on a BalckBerry.

Step one
From the Home screen select Profiles and then select Advanced.

Step two
Now choose which profile, eg Loud, that you want to set the ringtone for. Once it's highlighted, press the Menu key.

Step three
From the options displayed, select Edit. You can now choose whether you're setting the your MP3 as a ringtone or an alert for SMS etc.

Step four
Once you've selected what type of alert you want to set, scroll down to Tune and select the MP3 you want to use. A list of MP3s stored on the phone and memory card will be displayed. Select the one you want.

Step five
Now press the Menu button and select Save. Your MP3 has now been set as your ringtone.
