'Thwack!' That is the oh-so English sound of leather on willow. This year transported down under for the ICC Cricket World Cup, set to take place between 14 February and 29 March in the wilds of Australia and New Zealand. It promises to be a feast of 50-over cricket.

The Cricket World Cup will feature 14 nations ranging from the giants of India, Australia, England and South Africa, through fancied outsiders such as New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, less fancied dark horses such as the West Indies and Bangladesh, and the qualifying associate nations: in this case Zimbabwe, Scotland, Ireland, Afghanistan and UAE. This form of the game always brings shocks, often produces drama, and allows for great innings and bowling performances. (See also: How to watch The Open golf online.)
