Online backup has the advantage of being physically remote from your original files, while being accessible from anywhere. We’ve chosen Diino 4.1 (diino.co.uk), which gives you 2GB of free storage space. Once signed up, follow the link in your account confirmation email.
Diino allows you to store files in several ways. You can opt for a manual or scheduled data backup, or use the service to store and share your photo collection, and stream music. You can access files from any connected device, including a mobile phone. Plus, it reconnects dropped connections and picks up absent files.
The interface resembles Windows Explorer. You can simply drag-and-drop files to and from the web, or right-click on a folder and choose Upload Files or Folder. The amount of space available is shown at the bottom and, when uploading, you decide whether files will be web-accessible.
A progress bar informs you how long it will take to copy files to the online backup folder and the upload speed. You can open files directly from your online vault or browse by thumbnail by clicking on the View icon. Organise your online archive by right-clicking on the web page and choosing Make New Directory.
