When you sign-up for a broadband package, your ISP will supply you with estimated download and upload speeds for your line. It's easy to check you are actually achieving these speeds with a broadband speed checker. Here's how to use one.
Ensure you're getting the speeds your ISP promised
Start by opening your web browser and visiting a dedicated speed test site, such as PC Advisor's own speed checker.
Pres Start test and the check will begin. It's worth noting the test will take between two and three minutes to complete and you'll need to ensure you have a Java Runtime Environment installed. Finally, you musn't use your net connection while the test is taking place.
Next, the test will identify your ISP. If the organisation it has chosen is not correct, use the drop down menu to select the correct ISP. Then press either My ISP is selected above or Other ISP/not using broadband underneath the heading Save and View Your Results. Your results will then be displayed on screen.
Now take the PC Advisor Home Broadband Survey and have your say about your web connection
