How to change your name on Facebook

Change the name displayed on your profile

When you sign up for social network's such as Facebook you're required to include your name on your profile. However, at some point in time you may want to change this. Perhaps you initially used a nickname and want to change it to your full name, or alternatively you may have got married and taken you other half's surname. However, you don't need to delete your entire profile and start again. You can simply change your name on your existing profile. Here's how.

Step one
Log in to your Facebook account and from the Account menu on the top right-hand corner, choose Account settings.

Step two
Scroll down to the section labelled Name and then press Change, which is located on the right-hand side of the window.

Step three
Enter your new name into the boxes displayed. It's worth noting you can also add an Alternative name, such as your maiden name or nickname, so other users can search for you using this name and still find you.

Step four
Press Save changes, although it will take 24 hours for the changes to take effect.
