Record PlayStation 3 gameplay to share on YouTube

Capture HD video from PS3 on TV to PC

Do you want to share your PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 gameplay via YouTube? Perhaps you'd like to capture HD video from your games consoles to your PC or laptop? Let our Helproom Editor explain how.

QUESTION I'd like to record my PlayStation 3 gameplay to share on YouTube. I want to be able to play in HD on my TV while capturing video to my PC. Is there a way I can do this without reducing the picture quality? Mark

HELPROOM ANSWER Yes, there are devices that will enable you to do this. You don't say whether you're using a desktop PC or a laptop. If you're using a desktop you can use a capture card such as Avermedia's AverTV CaptureHD H727, which also includes a digital TV tuner and FM radio.

If you're using a laptop or would rather not install a card inside your PC, try Elgato's game capture HD. This USB device will intercept HD video from an unencrypted HDMI source as it passes through to your TV, so you can capture the video on your PC or Mac as you play. Cables are provided for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
