Our guide to getting online on the London Underground tube Wi-Fi
Like it or despise it, there is Wi-Fi broadband internet access at a large number of London's Underground tube stations. The service is provided by Virgin Media but is no longer free for anyone who wishes to get online on the tube.
Here's what you need to know about using the London Underground tube Wi-Fi network.
What stations can I use Wi-Fi at?
At the time of writing, Virgin Media has installed Wi-Fi at a total of 103 tube stations and has plans to add more throughout the year. The firm plans to reach a total of 120 stations by the end of March 2013.
At stations with available Wi-Fi users will be able to get online in ticket halls, on escalators, walkways and platforms. Stations with Wi-Fi installed will have a Wi-Fi Zone logo in the ticket hall and around the station.
Note. There is no Wi-Fi signal in tunnels, but device should automatically connect when you arrive at another station with Wi-Fi access.
The stations with internet access cover the majority of central London but there are a number of more remote stations with Wi-Fi too. To check the list of stations head to http://my.virginmedia.com/wifi/station-guide.html
How much does it cost?
If you're a Virgin Media, EE or Vodafone customer you can still use the internet on the tube for free. If you're not then you must buy a Wi-Fi Pass. The passes are priced at £2 per day, £5 per week and £15 per month. You can buy a Wi-Fi Pass online before travelling or from your device when you are at the tube station itself.
During February you can buy a three month pass for £15.

How do I connect?
Virgin Media customers
Once you're at a tube station with Wi-Fi access turn your Wi-Fi on and open your web browser. Choose Virgin Media on the Portal page and select whether you are a Virgin Media Broadband customer or Virgin Mobile Pay Monthly customer. Then log in with your Virgin Media user name and password.
Any Vodafone customers with internet as part of their contract are eligible for free Wi-Fi on the tube.
Users should connect in the same way as Virgin Media customers but choose the Vodafone option from the Portal page and log in with their My Vodafone details.
EE customers (including Orange and T-Mobile)
Customers need to send a text message to 9527. You will get a reply with a password. You can then use this password along with your mobile phone number to log into the Wi-Fi at tube stations via the Virgin Media Portal.
Can I use the Wi-Fi for whatever I want?
Since the Wi-Fi on the London Underground is a public network, Virgin Media may block certain content. The firm said content must be "suitable for young people to access themselves or to look at over someone else's shoulder."
