Last week, Swedish music streaming service Spotify revealed it plans to rival Apple by giving all of its users the ability to manage the tracks stored on their iPods.
Use the music streaming service to manage your music
Spotify users that connect an iPod classic, iPod nano or iPod shuffle to their PC, will find it appears in the new 'devices' section in the Spotify sidebar. From here, users can sync tracks and playlists stored on their PC with their device.
"Now everyone can own their favourite Spotify playlists to take wherever they want. Heading out for a run or off on a trip? Buying the songs you want to hear has never been quicker, easier or more affordable," said Spotify CEO Daniel Ek at the time.
If you're an avid fan of the music-streaming service and want to manage your music on your iPod using the service, it's really simple to implement. Here's how.
Step one
You'll need to make sure you have the latest version of Spotify installed on your PC. If not head to Spotify's website and download the app. Once installed launch the Spotify app on your PC
Step two
Connect your iPod to your PC using the cable it come bundled with. Once connected, your iPod will appear under the devices tab on the left-hand side of the screen.

Step three
Select 'Erase your iPod & Sync this iPod with Spotify' to wipe your iPod and use Spotify to transfer the tracks stored on your PC onto your iPod. Once complete you can elect to manually manage your music every time the device is connected by selecting "Manually choose playlist to sync" when the device is connected.
