How to fix faulty drivers when your headphones cut out

What to do when your PC's audio keeps cutting out

QUESTION The sound output to my headphones frequently cuts out while listening to music using Spotify. Error messages report that my sound card isn't working or my headphones haven't been detected, but closing the pop-ups or relaunching Spotify usually fixes the problem. R Gibson

HELPROOM ANSWER This sounds like a driver issue. When a sound card fails to do its job properly, Windows is unable to detect a pair of connected headphones or know when it should switch audio output between these and your speakers. Downloading and installing the latest drivers for your sound card and Bios from the manufacturers' websites should fix the problem.

If the problem continues, it could be a problem with Spotify itself. Take a look at Spotify's forums or ask the firm for advice.
