OMG that list is huge, seeing that you almost think, maybe it would be wise to move to a mac, all the things you need to be secure can be daunting, this for anti virus that for malware, this firewall, this for spyware, its all a bit too much, people want to just use a pc not be bogged down with 15 different software to be secure. maybe windows shouls be built more like the mac to not get viruses and spyware etc.

IMHO Gizmo Richards website should be on everybody's bookmark list.
Even better - sign up for his irregular newsletter which can point you in the direction of some excellent offers.
I've had in the past Acronis TI plus the Disk Director suite for $9.99/Zone Alarm Pro for free/and only this week the Bullguard Security Suite free for a year.
.....and his software recommendations are usually pretty good.

That list is way over the top for home users, most of those are just not needed unless you have specialist requirements.

Nothing to do with how Windows and the Mac OS are coded. Everything to do with the Windows user base being much larger and the malware writers going for the biggest target. There is no reason to suppose that, if the Mac user base increases greatly, that the malware writers won't target it more often.

It's everything to do with the way Windows is coded. The size of the Windows user base just exacerbates the problem.

Anti Virus

I'm using Comodo internet security suite which includes antivirus. Have downloaded Microsoft security suite and have used it. Should these be used together or should I drop one, please. AB 68

So you think if the tables get turned and Mac users come to be in the majority the malware writers will not move to the Mac platform too

No, I didn't say that at all.

But the architecture of Windows is such, that it leads to elevated privileges relatively easily exploited.
