Help

I have a Dell 1525 laptop.

After been away for a few week, after returning Vista downlaoded 3 weeks worth of updates (just under 300mb)

After the updates, on trying to close Internet Explorer. I get a systems message saying that it could not closed down. Do I want to restart explorer. I try and restart without any success.

The only way to close it down is to do ALT-CRTL-DEL and log off.

I tried to down a store to the point before the updates without success!

Any ideas?

Have you tried manually uninstalling the updates via control panel - Windows update - installed updates (bottom left corner). Click on the update and uninstall.

Removed all the updates which were installed on the 28.02

Have tried Explorer and have the same issue!

Any more ideas or do I do a full reinstall from the Dell recovery partition??

Windows Vista: Dell Factory Image Restore
1 Turn on the computer. When the Dell logo appears, press <F8> several
times to access the Vista Advanced Boot Options window.
2 Select Repair Your Computer.
The System Recovery Options window appears.
3 Select a keyboard layout and click Next.
4 To access the recovery options, log on as a local user. To access the
command prompt, type administrator in the User name field, then
click OK.
5 Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
NOTE: Depending upon your configuration, you may need to select Dell
Factory Tools, then Dell Factory Image Restore.
The Dell Factory Image Restore welcome screen appears.
6 Click Next.
The Confirm Data Deletion screen appears.
NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with Factory Image Restore, click Cancel.
7 Click the check box to confirm that you want to continue reformatting the
hard drive and restoring the system software to the factory condition, and
then click Next.
The restore process begins and may take five or more minutes to complete.
A message appears when the operating system and factory-installed
applications have been restored to factory condition.
8 Click Finish to reboot the system

It might be worth trying an alternative browser to IE. I use Firefox. You could install Firefox from click here and see whether the same problem occurs using Firefox. At least this way, if it works, you won't lose all you settings etc. as you will from a complete reinstall.

Just another thought. I remember reading somewhere about issues with the Google toolbar and IE. Do you have the Google toolbar? If so, it might be worth removing it and seeing if that solves your problem.

Removing Google Toolbar resolved the issue.

Don't forget to reinstall all those windows updates you deleted - they are important!
