Networks problem on 8.1 update

I have two USB wi fi adapters attached. One is described in Device Manager as 802.11n, the other 802.11g. Both adapters are shown as working correctly and have the latest available drivers. The problem is that after update from 8 to 8.1 only the available connections from WiFi 1 (802.11n) are shown. The listings from both adapters were shown on windows 8. as Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi 2 Network and Sharing Center shows a network assigned to Wi-Fi 2 which is the 802.11g adapter, though there is no way to select a connection, so the adapter though fairly old is working. Removing one adapter does not allow the other listing to be shown. Any Help or suggestions appreciated. Googling the problem does not produce any help.
