Win 8 Sound Recording problem

P5b_Plus motherboard: Multi boot includes XP and Win8.

XP: no problem - sound recording etc... all OK

Win8: Can't get any sound input - not via Line In and not via Mike. Probably can't get any sound out either but haven't tested that yet.

Have tried with Windows Sound Recorder, Skype, and Audacity.

Have confirmed that the sound driver(s) is OK - no yellow flags, and Updated.

XP being OK suggests that there are no hardware issues

I'm out of ideas - can anybody help please?

In windows 8 right click the sound icon in the notification area and select Recording Devices. In the pane that opens right click a blank area and tick both boxes. Hopefully you will see Stereo Mix. That needs to be the default to record sound via Audacity. For mic and Line in then change the defaults when they're plugged in.
