"If you don't like the metro welcome screen why upgrade to W8.??"

...perhaps because new PCs come with it pre-installed?

Hi there a couple of ways, Put the desktop tile as the 1st tile top left hand side of start screen.

Install something like classic shell or start8

or why not follow some of the tutorials here and actually use the start screen. you can add tiles for "My Computer", "My Documents" in fact almost anything.

Have a look here http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/ http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5418-desktop-icons-add-remove-windows-8-a.html?filter1=Appearance Personalize http://www.eightforums.com/customization/12971-list-start-menu-replacements-windows-8-a.html
