Forgive this basic question : if I upgrade from Windows 7 to 8, do I have to re-install all the programs currently loaded, after the upgrade?

If the program supports Windows 8 then do not, otherwise you just will have to find a replacement

Jock1e, there's no doubt in my mind that 8 will be the most popular Windows OS yet and it won't take all that long for it to be so.

Jock1e, still awake then :)
