my windows 7 is lagging

the past couple of weeks my laptop has been really lagging like when open new fire fox windows and just seems a bit slow , its never usually like this so can anyone help?

you could have got a nasty without realizing it - try trend micro online virus checker. Look in msconfig and see how many things have a tick in the left hand side box. I have a tick in ms security essentials, my graphics card prog and nothing else. Everything that is ticked takes up some of your ram. Have you perhaps installed a lot of fonts? each font takes ram and a bit of time to check when you do anything.
