Ive upgraded os to win 7 and i am wondering what is taking up a huge amount of space on my hard drive which is 1tb. With everything updated and no sizeable programs on the drive it says the room left is 889 gb of 931gb. thats a hell of alot of space taken for a operating system.

If you "upgraded" a previous version of Windows, rather than "clean installing" Windows 7, you will probably have a Windows.old folder containing all the files from the older installation. Was this the way you did it?
