Data Partition and Users folder

I have W7 64 bit and have my main HD partitioned c:/ - 100 gig, F:/ Data - balance of 500 Gog. I have retained the old XP filing system of most self generated data being in a main "My Documents" folder with sub folders such as My Music, My Word Docs, My Pictures etc (I include Outlook in this). My data partition therefore holds most of my data and is frequently backed up to another drive with Synch Toy. However the Users folder is still on the C: drive and accumulates data such as downloads etc. I have Googled this issue and it seems very difficult to move the Users foler to another partition. Any views? PS I "tell" the libraries where the data is.

try this:

Click start button

Click your name at top of menu

This opens your user profile folder

Right click "my documents" shortcut

Select properties, then location tab

In this window you can select "move" and browse to a new location

Apply>OK

You can use this procedure for any personalised folders.

I use a 60GB SSD so obviously do not have the space for the MY folders, consequently the first thing I do is create similarly named folders elsewhere then move the originals. Full instructions here. Move.

Nunber Six, Chronus. Thanks for suggestions , which I will study and try. I already have all my "My Documents" etc on my data partition; I was a bit wary of moving the Users library folder itself to that drive as Googling the problem brought up all sorts of issues involving registry editing.

Having looked at your suggestions I already , as stated before, put data elsewhere. However the Users library itself stays in the C Drive and I have noticed some items are added to it, such as i Tunes back ups, even though iTunes media etc is in F:/ My Documents/ My Music/ iTunes, and the Music library folder "knows" they are there.Have you moved the library folders themselves to another partition (not just the data to which they refer)?

I have moved the complete library folders instead of being on the main drive C (60GB SSD)they are on the secondary 1TB drive. Just follow the instructions in my link to another post.Job done.

Absolutely no need to go anywhere near the registry.
