lack of printing!

Hi

I have W7 Home set up and running as a media centre and it is fine except for a lack of printing! On first boot I can print but I leave this PC on and allow it to sleep when not needed. I then cant print. If I try and open Devices and printers It doesn't! Even if I wait 30 minutes it doesnt open. I have tried disabling and then re enabling USB printing support but to no avail. I tried to reinstall the printer - failed - no error messages just "not responding"

Is the printer directly connected to a USB port on your PC or is it connected via WiFi?

Thanks I will look at that when feeling a bit better, washed out by kidney infection at present.
