music won't load in Mp3 player

I have tried to load 538 tracks I had put in 1 folder (copy and paste)on to my 4GB Mp3 player,on three occasions I got the message "not enough free space on device" also "does not support mp3 format" on each of the three occasions just 127 tracks had been "pasted" to the device. I then converted the tracks to WMA thinking that would do the trick, but again just 127 tracks copied. Can anyone help with this problem as I had no trouble a month ago when my old computer was running XP, I'm now running Windows 7 Home.
