Daughter has brought her HP Pavilion dv6 round to be sorted. One of it's issues is that it will not instal Windows updates. Have recovery discs, but don't seem to be able to get started. Could reinstall XP with my eyes shut!

Have you taken a look at the advice given on the HP Recovery Site particularly the second item in the list?

No, I didn't, but thanks for your reply. Have actually got it started. The speed is appalling slow, such that I am seriously concerned about the potential for something really nasty sitting in the machine. Has managed the fist step of installation, but will not copy files across. Have taken the regrettable step of getting a full version of Win7 to try that.
