Why? I won't get a huge discount off the next car because they introduced a new model a year after I bought it. No doubt that my 'old model' will carry on working well for several years to come, as will Win7. Hey, and there is no guarantee that the new model will be better, just different. Just like with motoring, if you want the latest model all the time, it costs more.

Microsoft have long said their intention is for a new O/S every three years.

Vista got well behind schedule and was even then rushed out.
