Is there a way of adding an icon to the task bar which opens the desktop.

It is provided in Vista - but I cannot see it in Windows 7.

Do you mean the icon called "Shows Desktop" ?? If so,from memory it was by the clock, but that was on win 7 beta...

Just hover your curser over the blank button in the extreme bottom right corner and whatever program is open will disappear and the desktop will appear.
