The file is...
1) Incomplete or corrupted
2) In a format that is not a video or audio file.
Probably a RAR or similar.

One other thing you can try.
Open media player classic and click on VIEW then OPTIONS.
Under the player heading click on FORMATS and tick the box ALL then APPLY.
If you selected the option to not install the player at setup and are using WMP then I can't help you I'm afraid as I don't use WMP.
