Although MS have never given a date for the launch they initially indicated early 2010 then said late 2009.

October 2009 I think is an indication of two things.

1. Things have gone very well with the beta and RC1 launch of W7

2. They are desperate to put the disaster that was Vista behind them.

Windows blog sites have been reporting W7 as being priced from $199-$317 in the US. Which is slightly up on Vista.

Whether this is accurate we will have to wait for the official MS release.
