Windows 8 and activation key

I recently tried to download windows 8.1 without success. Since then every time I switch on the computer it asks my to activate windows. In the control panel under system I go to activate and I get the following message."Cannot activate error code 0X8007232B DNS name does not exist". I looked up on google answers to this and found several. I tried slui 3 and entered my product code and it accepted but then when I log off and log back on again it asks me to activate. Obviously this problem has occurred since I tried to download windows 8.1 unsuccessfully. Please can someone help me as Ive run out of answers.

Try a system restore to before you tried to download W8.1

I tried a system restore but it wouldn't restore. I've even restored my computer to it's original factory setting but it still comes up with the activation.
