music editor won't open files

I have just started to use windows 8 and want to use the music editor, the problem is it won't open any files in my iTunes files, the folders open but when it get to the actual file of the track it appears empty. Files just in the general music file are able to be imported though. I have had to download wave pad to edit music which doesn't have the problem, it opens files in iTunes.

Is the music file format supported by iTunes?
