Acer System Restore Disk Creation

Just got a W8 laptop (Acer) and I'm a little underwhelmed (unconfident) with Acers "create system restore disk"facility. I think I may have created a "System Restore" disk, but Vista created that version over two dvds; whatever it is I've created on W8 only needed one dvd.

Is there anyone out there who has created a W8 system restore DVD and can confirm how many dvd disks it might use?

Thanks in advance Phil

Probably one is for Windows Restore and the other for drivers etc.

Always best to download them, If you Have problems and don't have the DVD'S Acer charge you £60 for them. Not sure why they just don't give you them with a new computer rather than making you download them.

Sorry one DVD will probably be the Restore DVD which will probably restore it to factory settings with the drivers included.

Hope you get on well with W/8 it is not for everyone.

Maybe someone that has an acer will be able to give you the proper advice all I can say is My Grandaughter had an Acer and did not have the restore DVD and acer wanted £60 for one.

Her hard Drive packed up after 15 months and that is when she had problems, Not sure if it is a common thing for Acer but have read of quite a few problems with their hard drives but I suppose most laptop makers have the same sort of problems and not just Acer.

Thanks Jock1e - good advice but now I'm at home and Lszarus's answer is eliciting a couple of memories.

Lazarus the 2nd - yes, thanks, that's what I did - " Acer Recovery Management". However, not having a 16GB USB drive to hand, I tried exploring other options.

16GB USB Drive? That's gonna take 4 DVDs at least, if I can find an option to use a DVD!

However, I can't remember exactly what I found but it did something and created one disk.

Looking at the other options now, I see "Acer Backup Manager"; one option lets me create a bootable DVD, another lets me "image my drive". I will investigate further but an initial read through doesn't bode well.

Anymore experienced users please feel free to chip in - any info good or bad will be investigated.

Cheers Phil

Acers restore on mine is accessed from the start Menu and was 3 disc ( original system was Win 7 ) Reading this post it seems to indicate the original system was Vista.

Logically Acer will only make and Make a set of discs for the original restore to factory settings

If you have upgraded from what was originally on yours you will need to use another method to make a disc image which you can then if needed restore from

Thanks sharpamat but it's a brand new W8 laptop - first 5 words. References to Vista was for previous laptop. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Anyone else want to give me a clue ?

Cheers

Just to remove any doubt, I want to create a set of disks that will restore the laptop to as if I've just bought it, or as if I've just installed W8 from a set of certified original W8 install disks on to a new unused HDD.

Cheers

Hi Phil,

OK Lazarus - I think you've made it more than clear, thanking you very much for that mate.

The Acer page on making-windows-8-recovery-cds-or-dvds spells it out to the letter - I need to buy a 16GB pen drive. Hey-ho - not a great deal of money these days, I will just have to remember where I've "kept it safe" at ha ha!!

I think jalmolkys frustration is echoing my own in the Acer community forum, and I think he has gone down the same path as me and come to a dead end.

I did search around before I posted on here; unfortunately I obviously didn't search on the right words :)

Right !! Offski to Asda for a reasonably priced pen drive. Let's hope it'll last a few years.

Thanks again to all answers - I'll mark this solved closed whatever :)
