Photos app only showing a few photos.

Can anyone help me understand why only some of my photos are showing on the Photos app. They are all stored in pictures library but less than half showing on the app. Can anyone help?

There is one suggestion shown on this forum that has worked for some people. Check page 2 and the reply from BrianLaks.
