Windows 8 issue where laptop automatically shuts down

I have noticed that, on several occasions, after using laptop & closing lid, then returning to use laptop, it appears the laptop has automatically shutdown. The only way to get it back up is to hit the power button. In doing so, the computer restarts, then gives me a message saying a problem caused your computer to restart & if I would like to send the info to microsoft. Is anyone else having this issue? What can I do to fix this problem?

Try Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options, System Settings, When I close the lid. Choose the option you want and click OK or Apply.
