windows 8 shut down message 'Will lose data'

when shutting down Acer laptop running windows 8 a message appears saying I and other users may lose data if you continue. I am the only user and when I check Task Manager no are running. When I select 'Continue anyway it returns me to the system and does not shut down. BJ

The only thing I can think of is it is trying to install Windows updates.

There were 11 updates last Tuesday night,Has your problem just started since then.

Easy way to check would be to switch Windows Updates off and see if it shuts down ok.

Hello Jock1e Thank you for your reply, the problem did start about Wednesday so following your advice I did the windows updates and also there were 4 updates from Acer. IT Now Works again.
