Placing Windows defender in the hidden icons

On my laptop with Windows 7 I have Microsoft security essentials running and an icon is in the hidden icons box on the bar at the bottom of the screen.

My Mother just bought a laptop and has Windows Defender running in Windows 8 and would like it to be in the hidden icons box, how do I get it in there please?

From Microsoft.

Windows Defender and MSE.

This also from Microsoft which is a bit confusing.

No, you cannot have Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essesntials installed at the same time. If you have Windows 7 or earlier, Windows Defender is an antispyware program and MSE is a full security package. If you have Windows 8, then Windows Defender is full security package and MSE is not supported on Windows 8.

According to that MSE should be switched of and Windows Defender should be running.

Also this.

MSE is NOT compatible with W8 and MUST not be installed on W8 (and MUST be removed prior to upgrading any computer to W8 or you'll have troubles since it often cannot be removed and it must be removed and the only option is to re-install W8 from scratch to get rid of MSE).

Scratch the head time i think.

How odd, I still get the same error message when trying to open that link.

From using my mothers laptop last weekend it appears W8 does not come with MSE, it comes with Defender, Defender is running but there is no icon showing that it is running like it does on my PC and Laptop with W7.

I just read your last 2 posts on the next page, thanks.

Yes, on W7 I run MSE for real time protection and Defender will not work, now I understand why. But I run SAS and Malwarebytes once a week.
