Windows 8 tolerant to older software?

Has anyone any comment on Windows 8 being capable of running older software?

I am still struggling with operating Windows 8 so haven't dared to try to load software yet, and thought it safer to ask first"

A lot of what I ran on Win 95 such as Lotus Word Coral Print and photo house and later Coral X4 and even Microsoft Office 2007 are running quite happy
