How to get W Explorer icon on W8 Desktop screen

Just upgraded to W8 from W XP and want to use Explorer. The tile on the Start screen takes me directly to BBC home page - not wanted, but I'm told you should be able to access Explorer from the Desktop Screen. So far I've been unable to find it. Can anyone advise?

Right click the tile in start and select pin to taskbar. On the desktop right click the IE icon on the taskbar, in the list right click Internet Explorer again, select properties. Select 'open file location', right click iexplore.exe select 'create a short cut'. Windows will say that it can't do it 'here' but will create it on the desktop, select ok.
