Win 8 has crashed again after going into hibernate/sleep mode. None of the repair or refresh options work, so am going to reinstall.
Before doing that, I want to rescue folders and files that were on the desktop.
My question is, where does Win 8 store its desktop files?

Another bad install. As you have no programs installed have you tried a Refresh from PC settings in the General section.

Have followed Dave's advice about using the Win7 ISO and now have Win8 installed and booting again - at last.
However, another issue has arisen, which I've read on forums is also common after installing W8: - my DVD/Cd player has disappeared so I can't install any further software
I've done the reg edit fix for this available online but it hasn't corrected the problem. Also, I've downloaded the free MS Media Centre, which is also supposed to resolve the issue, also without success - I have the media centre function, but not DVD/CD player.
Can anyone help with advice on beating this bug or need I re-post as a new question?
